110% Green Award for Stanford

STANFORD – A Village 110% Green
Ward Councillor hands over 110%Green Flags

Stanford has joined towns like Knysna and Greyton in answering the call of the Western Cape Government to COMMIT to becoming 110% Green – 100% commitment and 10% impact, in the coming year, to ACT upon the pledge and to measure the IMPACT when the year is through.

There are currently 3 flagship enterprises who have won the award. Vuka Energy Savings who promote energy saving technology in energy poor households, Stanford Food Heroes who promote locally based food initiatives, and The Last Resort – an eco-friendly adventure camp for young people.

The concept should be replicated all over South Africa, says Hunter. “It would have a great impact on the environment if every household and people of all incomes were conscious of and used these simple technologies”

110% Green is a dynamic network of like-minded organisations connecting, reporting impact, sharing experiences and drawing in many more to join the 110% Green initiative. There is a co-responsibility by participants to contribute to building the green economy. Likewise, the Western Cape Government commits to specific projects and actions.
